Willem (William) Blaeu was the son of a rich salesman, born in Uitgeest.Between 1594 and 1596 the Danish astronomist Tyco Brahe teached him how to make instruments for navigation and Globes. Willem started in 1599 in Amsterdam a business to produce globes and instruments. He became one of the most important publishers of the Netherlands and the World on topographical material.Later he became the Hydrographer for the East India Company (VOC) He also published work of P.C. Hoofd and Snellius Works of Willem Blaeu: Worldglobe (1598) Hemisphere Globe (1603) Map of Holland (1604) World Map (1605) Marine atlas: Het licht der Zeevaerdt Atlas Novus Theamtrum Orbis Terrarum. His sons Joan and Cornalis took over the business in 1638 |
